Leonardo Capalbo makes his Komische Oper Berlin debut as the Duke of Mantua in Barrie Kosky’s production of Rigoletto. Opening February 7, the production also stars Ekaterina Sadovnikova and Nikoloz Lagvilava. Music director Ainārs Rubiķis conducts.

Capalbo has a long history of success in the role with appearances at the Royal Swedish Opera, Opéra de Wallonie, Oper Leipzig, Opéra de Montreal, Opéra de Toulon, São Paulo Opera, and Calgary Opera.

Seen and Heard praised Capalbo as “the personification of the Duke: handsome, sensitive, elegant and dashing but also temperamental and cynically complacent – and he sings like a god with beautiful tone, exquisite nuances, tossing off his top notes with brilliance and glow. ‘La donna è mobile’ is sung with seductive rubatos and becoming nonchalance.”
