The Saint Petersburg Philharmonia announced today that Leonardo Capalbo will join the MusicAeterna Orchestra led by Teodor Currentzis for Verdi's Requiem on November 9, 2019. This marks Capalbo’s return to Russia following his debut at the Perm Opera as Rodolfo in La bohéme, also conducted by Teodor Currentzis; a production which was later seen at the Baden Baden Festspielhaus.

Verdi dominates Capalbo’s 2019-2020 season. He recently finished a highly acclaimed run of Don Carlos at Opera Vlaanderen for which Das Opernmagazin praised him as “vocally without reproach” noting he “sang to the end with a radiant, emotional voice and charismatic heights.” Later this season Capalbo will make his Komische Oper Berlin debut as the Duca in Barrie Kosky’s production of Rigoletto. Capalbo returns to Verdi’s Requiem in May 2020 at the Beurs van Berlage in Amsterdam in the concert/drama Defiant Requiem, conceived and conducted by Murry Sidlin.
